On the 20th May 2026, China Travel (308 HK) announced the proposed spin-off, via an in-specie distribution, of HKM Culture and Tourism on the HKEx. The market response was largely “meh”.
HKM Culture and Tourism covers visa documentation, cross-border transportation, and hotels (HK, Macau & Beijing). The rump comprises scenic destinations, theme parks, and select integrated destination resorts.
The record date for the in-specie distribution is the 20th November. I’m not convinced I’d want to own either stock.

Conclusions First
HKM is touted as representing stable, high-margin, asset-light services, versus China Travel’s large-scale, asset-heavy scenic spots and theme parks in China.
HKM is at least profitable. Stable - yes. But no growth. Contracting if anything.
On balance, I tilt towards HKM over China Travel, as it appears easier to value versus China Travel’s rump.
Yet HKM numbers - full-year and interim - don’t scream “you need to get exposure”.
China Travel’s ~3% decline in share price since making the April 2026 spin-off announcement is illustrative.
